Overview

When you’re dealing with a separation or family law dispute, you don’t need someone to make the situation feel more complicated. You need to understand where you stand, what your options are and what happens next.

That’s how Kieran Ridley approaches family law.

Kieran is a Principal at Ridley Family Lawyers. He has more than 15 years’ experience in law and has practised primarily in family law for more than a decade.

His approach is straightforward: real advice and real strategies.

That means explaining the law in a language you can understand. Being honest about the strengths and risks in your position. Helping you work out what really matters. And developing a strategy that gets you from where you are now to where you want to be.

Kieran knows that by the time someone speaks to a family lawyer, life can feel anything but straightforward. There may be children to protect, finances to untangle, a former partner who won’t agree or simply a lot of uncertainty about what comes next.

His job is to bring some calm and clarity to that situation.

Working with Kieran

Kieran sees his role as a guide as much as an advocate. He will give you his advice and tell you what he thinks, but the decisions remain yours. His job is to make sure you have the information and strategy you need to make those decisions with confidence.

He doesn’t believe every disagreement needs to become a fight.

As an Accredited Mediator with extensive experience in negotiation and dispute resolution, Kieran looks for opportunities to resolve matters without court where that is realistic and in his client’s interests. Avoiding unnecessary conflict can save time, money and emotional energy – particularly when children are involved and parents will remain part of each other’s lives long after the legal matter is over.

But avoiding unnecessary conflict doesn’t mean avoiding difficult cases.

Kieran has substantial experience in complex and high-value property matters, cases involving third parties and parenting matters involving significant risk. When court proceedings are necessary, he brings the same approach: understand the issues, develop a clear strategy and focus on the outcome that matters.

As Kieran puts it, a family lawyer’s role is to “shine the torch and show people the way.”

Kieran advises and represents clients across the full range of family law matters, including:

  • parenting arrangements and parenting disputes

  • child support
  • apprehended violence orders
  • mediation, negotiation and other forms of dispute resolution
  • parenting matters involving significant risk
